The parks of the North/Serengeti
Everything is impressive in Serengeti to begin with the park itself (14750km2) where there is the most immense animal concentration in the world. Serengeti hosts the “Big Five”, the buffalo, the elephant, the leopard, the lion and the rhinoceros but 35 species of mammals as well. For bird watchers, the national park proposes a name list of the park’s birds: more than 600 species.
The yearly migration of gnus also constitutes the uniqueness of that park. They leave the plains of the South between may and june, then in September to rejoin the wetlands in the north or the west. Over a million of gnus and zebras form that huge herd.
Best period: for migration from December to may in the south and from june to October in the west and the north.
