DAR ES SALAAM
The biggest city of Tanzania, its name meaning “abode of peace” was a village of fishermen transformed into a commercial port by the sultan of Zanzibar in 1850. Dar Es Salaam is the perfect place to learn about culture mix.
The national museum of Dar Es Salaam is next to the botanical garden of the city centre. It hosts an important archaeological collection especially the fossils of Zinjanthrope (Australopithecus), enables the visitor to discover the squalor story of slave trade in Zanzibar. A very lively museum-village approximately 10 km from the city centre gathers Tanzania’s diverse typical houses. Traditional dances are organized every week end. The nearest beach from town is Oyster Bay, superb area of tropical shore
